After ten amazing years behind the drum kit for Social Distortion, Charlie "Chalo" Quintana has announced he's moving on to explore other musical opportunities. Charlie had this to say about his departure, "Playing with Social D for ten years was a good time in my life. I was lucky to play on two Social D records and the second solo album, and I am proud to have been part of the band. We hit some spectacular heights which I will never forget - adios amigos!" Filling Charlie's big shoes is none other than Atom Willard. You've probably seen Atom wailing on the skins with Rocket From The Crypt, The Offspring, or his most recent band Angels & Airwaves. We couldn't be more thrilled to welcome such a great talent and individual into the band. Atom's first show with Social D will be the Jay Thomas benefit on May 18 at the House Of Blues Anaheim.

A&A does suck, but you cant judge him by that. Josh Freese played on Mikes solo records and with NIN to name a few, but he has also played with Gwen Stefani. Great drummer too!

EDIT: well I was wrong, he hasnt played with Gwen, but he has played with Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Good Charlotte and 3 Doors Down. Cant judge a book by its cover :) Especially drummers.

yeah, but he's played with The Offspring and Rocket From The Crypt. He's going to be fine, just wondering what it will sound like now.

so glad that i saw his second to last show with the band in February when they played in Oakland. Debating wether or not to drop $40 for the benefit show in May. This might be a good reason to go.

Social D goes through drummers left and right. I'm sure Ness and Co will adjust fine though. I guess the next questions are: Will Atom Willard play on the next album or did Charlie record on a few tracks?

I'm gonna fucking miss you, Charlie, you were the best! Now that Atom's the new drummer, I hope he'll get to stay permanently just like Charlie did and record the new Social D record.

That's about three weeks too late to be an April Fool's joke.

I am really going to miss Charlie Quintana.... His style was so perfect for Social Distortion. I really thought Charlie was going to be there until the end. I know all about this new drummer, Atom, and know he is a really talanted drummer - I just hope his style will mold real well into Social D. He is a lot younger than the rest of the band too. Mr. Willard has huge shoes to fill. Charlie you will always be my favorite drummer of all time :
